Global Asbestos Awareness Week: 1 to 7 April 2025
HSE are running a Global Asbestos Awareness Week campaign, to support the HSE we would like to share the resources of their asbestos campaigns to highlight the risks and keep people safe.
Despite being banned in the UK 25 years ago, asbestos is still responsible for approximately 5,000 deaths in Great Britain each year, with symptoms typically taking decades to occur following exposure.
Asbestos can be present in any building built or refurbished before 2000, with common materials containing it including pipework and lagging, insulation materials, roofing and sprayed coatings on steel work. These materials become dangerous when disturbed or damaged.
If you’re a tradesperson, you’re likely to encounter asbestos during your work at some point. HSE Asbestos and You campaign provides essential advice to help you stay safe.
There is also a duty to manage asbestos in non-domestic buildings, this could be the building owner, tenant, person in control of the premise or landlord.
